Welcome, December!
As we head into the winter months, it seems nature study can be less inviting at times.
I love the stillness of the winter, the smell, and the beauty of snow.
I know all of my followers don't experience such a dramatic shift in weather, and may never see snow where they live. This month's nature study does include some snow or ice suggestions but you can adapt many lessons.
Through the years, I've found winter nature studies to be the hardest to achieve. The weather here in the midwest can be brutally cold.
So there are suggestions to study nature indoors on some days. Remember, use these suggestions and adapt them to what is happening where you live.
The big goal is to connect your children to nature every day. Sometimes that can be through historical stories. Children learn through a "science of relations".
This month I asked you to take a day to read to your children about the historical event, the "Trail of Tears". This sad event happened in the winter.
The "homemade education" I provide my children, is often sparked through making these kind of connections.
Sometimes you will notice the same monthly suggestions as in, "look under a log"... these suggestions create curiosity habits in children. Habits of exploration.
If your family already purchased this season's winter bundle, your calendar is ALREADY uploaded to your dashboard. Look for it under "December".
Enjoy a slow, simple, seasonal life and old fashioned Christmas with audiobooks, articles, recipes, nature study, and MORE!
